Altruistic authoring or containing criticism?

Abstract

In two conferences recently with which I have been involved, a similar thing has happened and I can't decide whether it is clever marketing practice, a blatant attempt to stave off possible criticism of products or a genuine desire to ensure the information public is not fed duff gen.
