Abstract

Just a few years ago, the primary reason for purchasing a high‐capacity hard disk was to store huge data files. At that time, 200 million byte hard disks were thought to be high‐capacity units, and prices for disks larger than 200 million bytes ranged from about $4 to $10 per million bytes (the best price for a one gigabyte (Gb) disk was about $6000).
