Abstract
ISO 9660 is the standard CD‐ROM file format which allows the information on a CD‐ROM to be used on many different computers. Although some industry estimates suggest that as many as 40% of all CD‐ROM titles use ISO 9660, many publishers are still using other file formats such as High Sierra. This situation is detrimental to the CD‐ROM industry and for end users. This article explains what ISO 9660 is and why its use is important.
