Abstract

Happy were the days B.C.D.S. (Before Compact Disc Standards)! This sounds retrograde, renegade, heretic, pagan, you name it. But it is the conclusion I have come to after installing a good dozen CD‐ROM databases in the past few weeks at the Graduate School of Library and Information Studies of the University of Hawaii. I was fortunate enough not only to be awarded a research scholarship from the Princeton‐based IREX (International Research Exchange Program) to study CD‐ROM sources for serials cataloguing, but also to be able to come here. Yeah, I know what you think, but I don't mean for that alone.
