Abstract

With a few strokes on the keyboard of a video display terminal, a patron in any of Cleveland Public Library's thirty‐one branches has access to more than 1.2 million titles housed in the system's main branch in a matter of seconds. By automating much of its day‐to‐day activities, the library, which claims to be the largest automated public library in the world, has improved services and operations, while significantly cutting costs.
