Abstract
The name Bentley is forever linked with the La Mans 24 heures Grand Prix d'Endurance. During a brief but glorious foray into racing, the marque scored five victories between 1924 and 1930, including a 1–2–3–4 walkover in '29 and created contemporary legends of its drivers, the ‘Bentley Boys’. In 1931, financial pressures forced the works team to withdraw from the racing scene, ending an illustrious era; the firm itself was acquired by Rolls Royce, who retained the name but discontinued the cars.
