The Last Word: Wealth

Abstract
Lately, we've been hearing a lot about the “wealth effect.” This is the idea that, buoyed by their gains in the longest bull market in history, consumers are feeling rich enough to spend some of that loot. Conversely, there's the theory that this wealth effect will reverse, and consumer spending will decline, as the stock market declines.
