Abstract

Too often, managers responsible for the economic decline of a division claim that the division's problem is obsolete equipment, which can only be remedied by substantial new investment. Seldom is this the primary cause of the troubled situation. A company that is facing economic trouble should focus on making the best use of existing equipment, owing to the low availability of capital.
