TY - JOUR AB - ON June 1 the Minister of Aviation held a meeting of airline representatives and engine and airframe manufacturers for the purpose of discussing the problem of aircraft noise. The seriousness of the annoyance caused was stressed and it was regarded as incumbent on all concerned with air transport that the difficulty should be tackled in unison. Airlines must, of course, continue to operate the types of aircraft now in existence but, it was stated, the limitation of noise would be given increased attention when defining the specifications for future transport aircraft. The aero‐engine manufacturers are actively concerned with the problem of reducing the noise‐to‐power ratio in their current designs and the airline companies are using procedures to restrict noise over built‐up areas in the vicinity of airports.
