TY - JOUR AB - ON December 17 the Boards of Hawker Siddeley Ltd. and de Havilland Holdings Ltd. announced that they had agreed to recommend a merger of the two companies. This agreement thus heralds the formation of what will undoubtedly be the most powerful aircraft organization in the British Commonwealth, and one which will be well equipped to compete with foreign rivals in the difficult years that lie ahead. This group will consist then of a large number of active firms all of whom have experience of building high speed, if not supersonic, aircraft and it will be well placed for consideration when a Government decision regarding a supersonic airliner is forthcoming. The organization can list among its products an impressive array of transport aircraft ranging from the piston‐engined Dove, Heron and Beverley through the turbo‐prop Avro 748 and Argosy to the turbo‐jet Comet and D.H. 121. Besides these the group is responsible for the Vulcan and Shackleton; and probably the most extensive list of jet fighter and trainer aircraft in the world, including the Vampire, Venom, Sea Vixen, Javelin, Gnat, Sea Hawk, Hunter, P. 1127, and the N.A.39.
