TY - JOUR AB - IN applied aeronautics it is frequently necessary to calculate the distance along the curved surface of an aerofoil, not only for constructional purposes, but also in order to deal with some of the problems in applied aerodynamics which play an essential part in modern design. Aerofoil sections are usually defined by rectangular co‐ordinates, the offset distance Y from the chord line being given against values of X, the distance along the chord from the leading edge. It is usual for X and Y to be expressed non‐dimensionally in terms of the chord as the unit.
