Abstract

A beam, particularly the wing spar of an aircraft, comprises flanges 4 of rectangular section lying parallel to the covering 6 of the wing or other structure, and a web 3 whose edges 7 are bent over and secured to the flanges 4, the section of the flanges 4 varying along the beam. The flanges 4 may be formed by sawing rolled bar and may be formed with recesses or slots to receive the edges 7 of the web and the securing rivets 9.
