TY - JOUR AB - AS the war becomes history and hostilities recede into the more distant past, much of the detail of events of the last six years is forgotten. Epics of great battles become classics; the Battle of Britain for example will ever hold a place of honour in history and the skill and speed with which the ground crews maintained and repaired the aircraft engaged will rank with the heroism of the air crews. But much of the normal routine work performed on air fields during the later stages of the war is liable to be overlooked, although a moment's thought reveals that without it our great bombing offensives could never have taken place.
