Modern Aeroplane Types: The Fairy Firely Fleet Air Arm Fighter

Abstract

Considering the all‐round heaviness caused by Naval requirements, the Firefly FI has a good performance—although to class it as a fighter is a misnomer. It would be impossible to design an aeroplane (with the same engine as the latest single‐seater fighters) that could carry a crew of two, together with most elaborate radio, be fitted with deck‐arrester gear and folding wings, and still have a performance comparable with any modern fighter.
