‘Failure’: A New Definition Needed

Abstract

ENGINEERING structures are built for use, but stressed for failure. The underlying assumption is obviously that a structure is fit to be used until it is loaded by a failing load or loads, when it collapses and becomes unable to fulfil its original functions.
