AB  - THE problem of the strength and stiffness of an eccentric circular tube or shaft has not, to the writer's knowledge, received attention in the ordinary engineering text‐books. This is somewhat surprising in view of the fact that exact concentricity is not easily obtained in long shafts, During war‐time, when highly skilled labour has to be supplemented by that of scantily trained and in‐experienced men and women, it is unfortunately only too likely that engineers will frequently have to decide whether an eccentrically drilled shaft may be passed for service.
