Abstract

WE are glad to have the opportunity of publishing DR. PUGSLEY'S article on structural research. Things have been moving so rapidly in aviation of late and changes in design and in the materials used in the construction of aeroplanes taking place so quickly that designers have had to deal with day‐to‐day problems as they arise, research being unable to keep up with their requirements. As a result of this, there is no doubt that airworthiness regulations have in all countries also fallen behind and have remained in force in spite of the fact that they are hardly suited to present advances and in some instances are hampering progress.
