More Practical Points in Design: Possibility of Emergency Repairs with Inadequate Facilities should be borne in Mind

Abstract

MUCH has been written for and against welded construction, but it must be admitted that for field repair work it is easier to renew a strut or longeron which may be riveted or bolted in place. On the other hand the repair at depot is often easier with a welded structure if the design provides for renewal of damaged members by cutting out the old and butt‐welding in the new tubes.
