TY - JOUR AB - In regulating‐means for aircraft engines wherein the pilot's hand control and an aneroid control are arranged for simultaneous action on the throttle valve, or ignition‐timing device, or fuel‐adjusting mechanism, a differential gear is arranged between the two controls and the element controlled. Fig. 1 shows a throttle valve a4 actuated by connections i4, i5 to an arm i3 connected to the differential gear, from which extend another arm i1 connected to the pilot's control i2, and a third arm i connected to a relay piston d controlled by an aneroid device b. The differential gear comprises a pair of sun bevel wheels j1, j3, Fig. 2, connected respectively to the arms i3, i, and meshing with a pinion k6 mounted in a carrier k1 to which the arm i1 is secured. Instead of bevel gearing, spur sun wheels may be used, meshing with two pairs of planet pinions which mesh with each other. The relay device may be such as those described in Specifications 344,041, 346,503, and 349,209.
