Abstract

“You want to WHAT?!?” was the usual reaction of family and friends when told about my plans to build an IBM PC‐compatible clone from “scratch.” But for an organization, such as a library, on a tight budget (sound familiar?), it actually makes a lot of sense to save over one‐half the cost of a system.
