Abstract

The summary journal is called for to meet the demands of those who cannot read as much as is offered in the papers now presented over the field of interest to the individual chemist. Its object should be to produce the most rapid general view of the work going on in the different fields of chemistry and in other fields of interest to chemists. It is by definition also a primary publication written by the man actually carrying out the research. It is not in any sense an abstract. It will fulfil its function in the measure that it can be both produced and distributed in a way that will avoid the major trouble of publications of all sorts today, that is, by intelligent limitation, so as not to overload the reader with material that, try as he may, he cannot get through.
