Abstract

Senator Albert Gore, Jr., has introduced a bipartisan bill, S 1067 (in the House, HR 3131) to create, among other computing initiatives, a National Research and Education Network. In September, 1989, the Bush Administration, led by Science Adviser Allen Bromley, announced broad support for computer initiatives including a National Research and Education Network. The program envisions federal leadership in the development of high‐speed data services in the 1990s comparable to the federal role in the growth of the Interstate Highway System in the 1950s.
