AB  - The Tin Research Institute exists to expand the uses of tin and to provide a free advisory service for the users of materials containing tin in any form. It is supported internationally by the tin‐producing countries and gives an international service. The headquarters and laboratory are at Greenford, Middlesex, but the service given is aided by offices in most of the principal tin‐using countries. Tin has been used for several millennia, at first probably largely for ornament although uses as an alloying element, in bronzes and speculum metal mirrors, and as a coating for food vessels soon emerged. For most applications corrosion resistance has always been a strong influence and it might be thought that by this time tin had exhausted its possibilities for use, for research, or for trouble‐shooting. This is however, far from being true.
