Abstract

During the last few decades there has been an increasing awareness of the importance of corrosion protection of steel structures, emphasised by increased cost and reduced availability of steel. The great increase in capital plant in both quantity and complexity has made protective measures against corrosion of vital importance to the industrialist. A brief review of modern synthetic coatings is presented in the hope that a greater appreciation of the merits and failings of each type will be given to those who regard protective painting as a necessary evil.
