AB  - It is just 100 years since the first particles of aluminium were made in the United Kingdom. Aluminium is the most plentiful metal in the earth's crust and its tough adherent oxide film is an effective barrier against corrosion, thereby ensuring permanence. At the Royal Festival Hall, London, last month a Centenary Exhibition organised by the Aluminium Development Association took place, showing the overall pattern of technical development in the aluminium industry. The accompanying photographs illustrate some of the aspects of the exhibition, at which examples of the uses of this metal and its alloys in nearly every industry were shown. The output of aluminium doubles every ten years and the demand continues to grow. Ore reserves are unlimited and the Paley Report estimates production will reach 6 million tons by 1975.
