Small shops in Ireland: The government takes a hand
Abstract
In Ireland, the Government's Joint Committee on Small Businesses has recently published a report on the retail and distribution sector. Specific areas of concern receiving attention in the report are food imports and below cost selling. It recognises the importance of small scale businesses in a country where penetration by larger multiples is substantially below the UK level. Indeed the Committee specifically notes the need to maintain the small scale grocery retailer.
