Abstract
The grocery trade in Ireland over the past year or so has been in a state of considerable upheaval. Albert Gubay's Three Guys has now been taken over entirely by Tesco, who are clearly planning to make an impact on the country's trade. In addition Quinnsworth has purchased the Five Star supermarket chain, thus increasing the number of their outlets from 42 to 70. And — to the benefit of the consumer — the price war has been hotting up.
