THE COMING YEARS IN DISTRIBUTION: THE INFLUENCE OF COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY

Abstract

What will be the effects in the near future of computer technology on physical distribution? Bob Beckham thinks that “significant and considerable” possibilities will be opened up by the new generation of systems that will become available in the eighties. Dramatically improved performance will be obtainable for a lower initial investment and a lower operating cost than ever before. This is an abridged version of a paper he delivered to the recent Freight Transport Association National Conference at Eastbourne.
