Abstract

One of the most obvious objectives in the development of orderliness and economics in international logistics and trade would, of course, be the standardisation of regulations, documentation, packaging, containers and transport vehicles. Unfortunately, the obvious advantages and the logic of such an approcah seems to be lost on the very people and organisations who have the most to gain from such standardisation. Therefore, before undertaking a discussion of the “invisible impediments to freight integration”, one must first discuss some of the personality and organisational factors that inhibit progress.
