Abstract

The new Luton Central Library is full of interest and original ideas; it is light and spacious and its décor is most attractive. It is, therefore, unfortunate that the impression felt on first entering the building is somewhat cold and impersonal as a result of being confronted not by books or visible signs of the building being a library, but by turnstiles and photo‐charging machines: there is no evidence of the warmth of the welcome that is obvious when one enters the Lending and Reference Libraries.
