Abstract

ONE of the most hoary problems of librarianship is the question of the theory of book selection, with which is interwoven the theory of book service. The protagonists are grouped on half‐a‐dozen platforms between the two extremes of (a) giving the public what they ought to have, and (b) giving them what they want.
