TY - JOUR AB - THE first Library Association Conference I attended was the one held at Cambridge in 1905 under the distinguished Presidency of the late Dr. Francis Jenkinson, and over the intervening years I seem to have attended every Conference of the Association until my retirement nine years ago. I got some elevation and entertainment from the papers read and from the people I met; but I took no very active part in any of the sessions, as the arrangements in those days were so formal and precise that discussion was, if anything, discouraged. But there were the intransigents who demanded to be heard, even though what they had to say dealt with nothing more important than the parish pump. No doubt they have successors!
