The Public Libraries Committee's Report

Abstract

I have been asked by the Editor of the Library Review to write a short article on the recently‐issued Report of the Departmental Committee which has been inquiring into the public library service of the country. Having been myself a member of the Committee, my remarks can hardly be expected to be of a critical nature. Perhaps what I can most usefully do is to indicate the main principles which underlie the recommendations of the Committee. For details, readers must be referred to the Report itself.
