Abstract

This is a study of a sample of women who have been particularly successful in the highly competitive field of mass media, where the pressures and rewards are perhaps more extreme than in most other professions. Case histories of each individual were developed, based on interviews, biographies, autobiographies and other material. These were then analysed in terms of common and contrasting themes at different stages of the life‐cycle.
