AB  - The Public Libraries Act of 1919 received the Royal Assent on 23rd December, after an exemplary rapid Parliamentary passage, occupying from beginning to end about three weeks. We open the New Year, therefore, in circumstances so potentially different from those of former years, that it is a little bewildering to most of us. It seems that the potentialities of library work have now been raised to an unknown degree, because we have now the most liberal library law in the world. Nearly every other country, except Tasmania and South Australia, has some limit, which is set upon the amount that may be spent upon libraries. Now there is no such limit, and the expansion that may now come will be bounded only by the will of the people themselves. At present they are not likely to be extravagant.
