Abstract

In the last few years, changing social patterns have brought about an increased demand for small dwelling units. A survey prepared in 1983 by the Department of the Environment showed that over 50 per cent of all households consisted of only one or two people, yet only 10 per cent of our national housing stock is in this size range. This trend towards smaller households is part of the general change in the pattern of family living.
