Abstract

Plastic change is introduced and discussed as the property of the brain cell that is responsible for the self‐organizing capabilities of neural nets. Three models of this phenomenon are described. The models are of increasing complexity, and the reasons for the three different models are given. The emergence of association as a property of a plastic neuron is illustrated.
