Abstract

The electricity meter in a British home has an 80% chance of being made by Sangamo Metering of Felixstowe. However, to date it has only a very small chance of being electronic in design. Now this is all changing. With the application of new and highly‐sophisticated automated assembly techniques incorporating robots, Sangamo is a leader in the metering industry, with volume manufacture of a range of electronic products, sold mainly to the electricity boards. So far, sales are very promising and the automation programme has had to be accelerated for the company to keep pace with orders.
