Abstract

Author Alvin Toffler predicts in Future Shock that today's society is “on the edge of a long leap toward unparalleled cultural diversity”. We believe the optical videodisc is the springboard for this long leap forward and, in particular, that this new technology is destined to have a profound and permanent impact on the entire educational process. We are also confident that an inexpensive optical videodisc playback system will become standard in schools, colleges and public libraries during the next decade, and that business, professional, technological, and scientific information will be communicated increasingly through videodisc players probably within the next two or three years.
