The atmosphere in the Amsterdam technical colleges I visited in some way reflected every preconceived idea I've ever had of Dutch industry. Philips, Unilever, Royal Dutch Shell have always seemed neat, clean, successful and as orderly as an electrical system. And the colleges, spacious and compact, give the impression that every piece of wire and inch of cupboard space is accounted for with this same meticulousness.
