The mission of the journal Pre-hospital and Disaster Medicine (PDM) is to distribute information relevant to the practice of out-of-hospital and in-hospital emergency medical care, disaster medicine, and public health and safety. Its major objectives are: the improvement of care, including the public health and safety aspects of disasters; and the prevention and/or mitigation of such events and their effects.

The journal provides an international forum for the reporting and discussion of relevant scientific studies, both quantitative and qualitative. It is available in printed form and portions are available on the Internet at the URL above with translations into multiple languages. The PDM site includes recent news, a complete document entitled Health Disaster Management: Guidelines for Evaluation and Research in the Utstein Style, information about the journal and article submission, and complete access to the online "Fred C. Cuny Memorial Continuing Education Series" on disaster management.
