Australasian Disaster and Hazard Research Directory

Do you know ...
- •
what research is occurring in your area?
- •
what is new in your area of interest or expertise?
- •
who is researching what?
Do you want ...
- •
to avoid duplication of research; to save money?
- •
to collaborate with other researchers?
- •
to expand your contacts and knowledge; to update contact details such as e-mail, Website or postal and phone/fax details?
- •
to learn about research taking place in your neighbouring countries?
Is there ...
- •
somewhere where you can announce what you have done or are doing?
This online directory will assist in all these questions. It is an invaluable tool for researchers, practitioners and decision-makers in the field of disaster or hazard management. It will be an important source of information for the new millennium.
The online directory provides a new and wider view of hazards and disaster research in the Australasian and Southeast Asia region. It focuses on both natural and technological hazards and disasters starting from 1993.
The directory allows easy online searches by:
- •
hazard;
- •
disaster;
- •
country;
- •
researcher.
- •
Keyword
It is the only directory of its type in the world that allows you direct access to information, thus reducing your valuable time and effort in contacting your networks and universities for information that might never be accessible anywhere else.
This project is a joint partnership between the Natural Hazards Research Centre and Emergency Management Australia. The system depends not only on these organisations for its maintenance and support but upon all practitioners, researchers and policy and decision-makers in this field to ensure its effectiveness. Thus we encourage you to register projects that you know about or are involved with and update ones that you are still working on.
If you are unable to access this online service to register or update projects and research, it is still vital that you submit information to the Natural Hazards Research Centre for them to upload.
Two important criteria for the effectiveness of the directory are:
- 1.
the project must have an emphasis on extreme events; and
- 2.
the researchers can reside anywhere in the world, but the research must refer to work undertaken on one or more of the countries included on the map.
Some hazards covered by the directory: aviation accidents, animal diseases, bush fires, chemical hazards, climatic changes, cyclones, dams, droughts, erosion, earthquakes, fires, floods, hailstorms, heat waves, industrial accidents/hazards, insect infestation, land degradation, landslides, lightning, maritime disasters, monsoons, natural or technological disasters/hazards, space debris, tsunamis, tornadoes, volcanoes, wastes, weather hazards, windstorms.
