24 April 1998 ­ Beed District, India

At least 11 people were killed and 30 injured when carriages of a freight train detached and rolled back into a stationary passenger train. The Press Trust of India said that up to 20 people were believed to have died in the accident late yesterday. The passenger train, bound for Hyderabad, was stationary at Parli station in Maharashtra state's Beed district, when the accident happened.

28 April 1998 ­ Bankaghat area, Bihar, India

At least ten people were killed and 40 injured when a passenger train was derailed today in India's eastern state of Bihar railway officials said. Nine bogies of the train veered off the tracks near Banka Ghat, 14 miles from the state capital Patna, early in the morning. "Ten passengers died and the identity of four of them has been established," said S.K. Madan, a senior railway official. He said bolts joining the rails had been removed and may have caused the Howrah-Danapur Express to derail. Huge cranes extricated the wrecked cars.

28 April 1998 ­ Ten people were killed and at least 30 were injured today when a passenger train was derailed in India's eastern state of Bihar, a local news agency reported. Press Trust of India said five coaches of the train veered off the tracks near Bankaghat station, about 11 miles from Patna, the state capital. The agency, quoting official sources, said 15 of the injured were in a serious condition in hospital.

24 April 1998 ­ Parbani area, India

At least 24 people have been killed and 27 injured in a train crash in western India. The Press Trust of India news agency says a freight train rolled backwards into and collided with a passenger train outside the town of Parbani, 250 miles east of Bombay. Police reports say 20 freight cars uncoupled from the goods train and rolled back, hitting the stationary passenger train. Eight of the injured were described as being in serious or critical condition.

10 May 1998 ­ Laksam, Bangladesh

A passenger train ploughed into a line of stopped train cars near Naoti station, Laksam, in south-eastern Bangladesh today, killing 16 people and injuring 26, officials said.
