Illuminated lifejackets light the way for rescue at sea

Lifejackets fitted with the Imageglow lighting system will help maximise the potential of rescuers to locate survivors stranded at sea. The system, which has been developed by Kleenkut Imageglow, can be incorporated into lifejackets and enables wearers to be visible from up to 2,000 feet away, without the need for external light sources to activate passive reflectors.

The jackets incorporate a water-activated switch that automatically turns on the high intensity light, making survivors easier to locate. An illuminated pane can also be included, giving wearers additional instructions to increase their chances of survival.

The Imageglow system is totally waterproof and extremely robust, enabling it to be folded up, along with the jacket, without affecting its performance. Full CE safety accreditation is currently being applied for.

The system can also be incorporated into other products, including life-rafts, escape hatches and emergency chutes for air, land and sea-based applications, to further enhance their life-saving benefits.
