Dr Chen Xu has been appointed Senior Scientist by Enthone Inc. Dr Xu's primary responsibility will be materials development and characterization, evaluating structures and properties of electroplated films, and failure mode analysis. He will be located at Enthone's surface analysis and materials property laboratory (SAMPL) in Jersey City, New Jersey (Plate 2).
Dr Xu has extensive experience in the fields of surface science, thin film technology and material science. Prior to joining Enthone, Dr Xu was a Project Leader and a Member of the technical staff with the former electroplating chemicals and services division of Lucent Technologies. While at EC&S, his primary responsibilities included materials development and characterization, understanding the relationship among deposition conditions, structure and properties of electroplated films and failure mode analysis. Dr Xu's career also includes R&D positions at Hoechst Research and Technology Center and Texas A&M University.

Dr Xu has received several awards including the Excellence in Presentation Awards at SUR/ FIN 2000 and Best Paper Award at IPC APEX 2002. He is the author and co-author of more than 60 publications, three book chapters and seven pending patents.
Dr Xu earned a BS in chemistry from Tongji University in Shanghai, China and a PhD in physical chemistry from Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany. Dr Xu is an active member of the American Electroplaters and Surface Finishers Society (AESF).
