CR Technology have announced a new, compact portable automated optical inspection (AOI) system. Priced under $30,000, the AOI 2020 is capable of delivering the same high quality performance as systems priced at more than $150,000. Despite its low price, the AOI 2020 has all the features small and mid-size board manufacturers need for PCB inspection. The system quickly and repetitively inspects and verifies component presence/absence, orientation/polarity, correct part, skew, and solder defects. The AOI 2020 variable resolution to 0.0015in. (40 microns) delivers unsurpassed image quality and accepts up to 9in. x 12in. printed circuit boards.
The AOI 2020 is a complete, ready-to-use inspection system that weighs only 50lb. Its compact size (17in. high x 21in. wide x 20in. deep) and portable nature allow users the ability to position the unit anywhere with ease. Board set-up is fast and simple; using CAD data and a populated board, the AOI will autotrain new PCBs for inspection. When CAD data are not available, a populated board can be used to quickly set up an inspection sequence; no programming is ever needed. Similar to more costly inspection systems, the AOI 2020 features high speed, reliable performance, and simple operation. All operations of the system are controlled by simple on-screen menus, using a trackball. The AOI 2020 easy-to-use design means installation and operator training can be accomplished in a few hours and product inspections begun the same day.
