Seven IPC members have been honoured for contributions they have made to the trade association and the electronic interconnection industry. Recipients of the IPC Distinguished Committee Service and Special Recognition Awards are being honoured at a special luncheon during the IPC/SMTA Electronics Assembly Expo in Providence, Rhode Island on Monday, 26 October 1998.

Five IPC members are being honoured with Distinguished Committee Service Awards. These awards are given to IPC committee members who have made an exceptional contribution to a specific standard, guideline, round robin test programme or other IPC programme. The Committee Service Award recipients are:

  • Jerry Bouska, AlliedSignal, for his contributions to IPC technical committees, the Technology Marketing Research Council (TMRC) steering committee, and the laminates committee.

  • Kon Lin, Lucent Technologies, for his efforts in updating the wetting balance solderability test method for J-STD-002 and J-STD-003.

  • Greg Munie, Lucent Technologies, for his efforts in updating the wetting balance solderability test method for J-STD-002 and J-STD-003.

  • Douglas Romm, Raytheon Systems, for championing the introduction of the surface mount process simulations in J-STD-003.

  • Bill Russell, Raytheon Systems, for his work on the J-STD-002, J-STD-003 wetting balance task group.

One IPC member and one IPC member company are being honoured with Special Recognition Awards. The IPC Special Recognition Award is given to IPC members who have made a recent exceptional contribution to IPC programmes or the industry. The IPC Special Recognition Award recipients are:

  • John Porter, Multicore Solders, for his role in assisting the J-STD-002 sub-committee in developing universally accepted solderability criteria.

  • Varian Tempe Electronics for providing facilities and technical support for the past five years for IPC training videos on board safety and handling, electrical test, mechanical assembly, and electronics assembly.
