Summaries of abstracts from Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effectiveness (DARE).
The literature evaluating the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of health care interventions is growing year on year, and these studies can be difficult and time consuming to identify and appraise. Systematic reviews can provide reliable information about what is known and not known about the effects of interventions. But just as with individual studies, systematic reviews can be hard to find, can have methodological flaws and can be difficult to interpret.
Produced by the Centre for Reviews and Dissemination at the University of York, DARE assists decision-makers by systematically identifying and describing systematic reviews, appraising their quality and highlighting their relative strengths and weaknesses.
The database provides access to over 15,000 systematic reviews of the effects of health interventions. DARE includes reviews of interventions that are clearly health related; interventions that have the potential to affect health; adverse effects; diagnostic and prognostic studies; and individual patient data (IPD).
DARE is currently updated every week. Details of all DARE and NHS EED abstracts in the process of being written (provisional abstracts) are also included on the databases and can be “fast-tracked” on request.
DARE is also available as part of the Cochrane Library interface, and can also be searched via NHS Evidence and the TRIP Database.
