Editorial objectives

Clinical Governance: An International Journal aims to address the doubts, queries, triumphs and practical applications of introducing quality assurance mechanisms into the delivery of care. The journal takes an international stance and covers key developments world-wide which can inform best practice in health care. Efficiency, effectiveness and economics are the main factors in the assessment of best practice and all are addressed in the research, audit and evidence-based papers published. All papers are peer reviewed to ensure their validity and value to current debates.

Editorial criteria

The journal publishes:

  • Research articles which illustrate clear implications for practice

  • Results-focused case studies which discuss problems and successes in clinical governance techniques

  • Special issues on topical themes.

Clinical Governance remains one of the world's leading publications specifically produced for clinicians, audit managers and all those actively engaged in the pursuit of clinical excellence. The journal is essentially practical and clinically based with the scope of the original articles including issues of practical importance in the areas of:

  • Evidence-based practice and guidelines

  • Implementation of best practice

  • Clinical performance indicators

  • Audit

  • Risk management

  • Patient involvement and welfare

  • Policy and strategy

  • User involvement and implications

  • Clinical guidelines

  • Continuous quality improvement.

Published quarterly, it is a vital source of information for a wide range of professionals in primary, secondary and community care. It is also invaluable to those with interests in healthcare research and education.

The journal is currently seeking papers describing and evaluating clinical governance activity in the areas listed above – with an emphasis on practical lessons learned.

Papers should be between 2,000 and 3,000 words in length.
