This review recommends that a bout of exercise be used to aid smoking cessation and regulate cravings, withdrawal symptoms and negative affect; bouts of exercise may also help reduce cigarette consumption for those unwilling or unable to quit. However, without an assessment of the validity or significance of some of the findings, the authors’ conclusions should be regarded with caution.
